Calcium Carbonate (Precipitated Chalk) – Brewing Water & Mash pH Adjuster
Calcium Carbonate, commonly called precipitated chalk, raises mash pH while adding calcium and carbonate to brewing water. It is especially useful for dark beers, helping balance the acidity of roasted malts in stouts, porters, brown ales, and dark lagers.
Because chalk does not dissolve readily in water, mix it directly into the mash and verify the results with a calibrated pH meter.
- RAISES MASH pH: Helps balance excess acidity from dark and roasted malts
- ADDS BREWING MINERALS: One gram per gallon adds approximately 106 ppm calcium and 158 ppm carbonate when fully dissolved
- IDEAL FOR DARK BEERS: Useful for stouts, porters, brown ales, and dark lagers
